Here's a meta-rationality angle. Being right is a failure if that's all you do. Schiff could do a lot of good for the world if he took a more constructive and less antagonistic approach.

Even if it's not society's fault, it is still often society's loss. So long as we wait around for socially preferred messengers before we hear the message, we will miss a lot of important truths.
